One only has to check out Bush's record as Governor of Texas to see his own preference for death over life. During his tenure as Governor, Bush presided over a record setting 152 executions, including the 1998 execution of fellow born-again Christian Karla Faye Tucker, a convicted murderer who later led a prison ministry. Forty of Bush's executions were carried out in 2000, the year the Bush presidential campaign was spotlighting their candidate's strong law enforcement record. The Washington Post's Richard Cohen reported in October 2000 that one of the execution chamber's "tie-down team" members, Fred Allen, had to prepare so many people for lethal injections during 2000, he quit his job in disgust.

Bush mocked Tucker's appeal for clemency. In an interview with Talk magazine, Bush imitated Tucker's appeal for him to spare her life - pursing his lips, squinting his eyes, and in a squeaky voice saying, "Please don't kill me." That went too far for former GOP presidential candidate Gary Bauer, himself an evangelical Christian. "I think it is nothing short of unbelievable that the governor of a major state running for president thought it was acceptable to mock a woman he decided to put to death," said Bauer.

People are going to get confused about why you do things - do them anyway. And if you can't explain yourself, don't feel too bad. People who can easily explain their actions are probably not doing anything too exciting. The only people who have to explain, or justify, their actions are the ones getting in people's grills, causing a ruckus, making some noise. It's so easy to criticize people who try - in fact, they're probably the only ones people criticize. They try, they might fail, and we rip them apart. Whereas other people don't try anything, don't say anything, and live out their quiet lives without raising so much as an eyebrow.

Buddhism really pisses me off. Maybe not Buddhism per se, but all the pseudo-lamas walking around with their all-natural fibres and yoga mats. Sweet Jesus - how are Hollywood stars Buddhists? Last time I checked--and admittedly I don't check often--Buddhism involves letting go of all earthly desires. Uh...right. Sure, Christian fundamentalists piss me off more, but the Buddhists are lurking abouts, espousing nonsense life lessons that make less sense than the BCS system.

Memo to Christians - stop embarassing yourselves. Just admit that you hate gays, and have at it. All this "We don't hate gays, just homosexuality" is fucking sad.
